Help From Tuneup

After all the predictions that the 49ers’ offense would center on its tight ends, a nearly forgotten player has made his presence known. Wide receiver Arnaz Battle, who practiced only once a day in training camp because of chronic knee swelling and soreness, is second on the team with 95 yards receiving, behind Antonio Bryant’s 245 yards.

In camp, when Battle was struggling, fullback Chris Hetherington suggested Battle try an unusual treatment that had fixed Hetherington’s trick knee several years ago.

“They described it like changing oil in a car, taking out that bad jell and putting in lubrication,” Battle said.
